Dear Guy Outside the Library

Dear Guy Outside the Library, who asked me to sign your petition on my way in,

When I said, "I don't have a free hand" (since I had a four and a half year old hanging on to one, a two year old, on the other, and two bags hanging from my shoulders), that meant much more than merely that my hands were physically occupied. Your response of "You could have a hand free" was really rather nonsensical, hence why I ignored it. That alone I would have simply rolled my eyes at, and moved on with my day. But seriously, accosting me again, on the way out, with me juggling not only the same aforementioned children and two bags that I had on the way in, but also the five library books that we had checked out? You seemed rather taken aback when I somewhat tersely explained that I had two children under five with me. Even in the time it took me to tell you that, my two year old nearly managed to pull a bloom off the morning glories in one of the library's planters. There is no way in the world I would take my attention off of my children, within 10 feet of a potential vehicle traffic area, long enough to sign your petition, let alone actually read it, and I'd never do the former, without first doing the latter.

I appreciate that you have a cause about which you are passionate, and it very well may be a worthy one, but there is no way I am going to put your cause above my children's safety - today was simply NOT the time. I sincerely hope you chose your cause with better judgement than you showed, today.
